In view of the difficulties faced by taxpayers due to the pandemic the Central Board of Direct taxes (CBDT) has extended the time limits for filing of income tax return and audit reports for the AY 2021- 22.The taxpayers have also faced difficulties in filing the audit report in the new income tax portal. The CBDT had already provided extension through previous circulars and the new circular is further extension to the same.

Points to be noted:
- Despite the extension, taxpayers who have a self -assessment tax liability exceeding Rs.1,00,000 will be liable to pay interest u/s 234A of the Act from the end of the original due dates
- For specified individuals (Above 60 years of age or more during the previous year not having income under the head profit or loss from business or profession;) for the computation of interest u/2 234A of the Act , the self assessment tax paid within the original due date will be considered as advance tax.
